Jim Carrey defends Griffin, AND calls for more Trump ‘severing’

Jim Carrey, whose anti-gun views and “pro-vaccine/anti-neurotoxin” rants have reduced his popularity with conservatives, decided it was in his best interest to defend Kathy Griffin following her disgusting “artistic” expression earlier this week.

Griffin, who prides herself on being a comedian who “steps over the line,” released a photo of herself holding the bloodied, severed head of President Donald Trump.

Although Griffin admitted the stunt was a “mistake” and “wrong,” Carrey, of “Dumb and Dumber” fame, spoke out against the backlash she’s received. On Thursday, he talked about Griffin’s actions at the premiere of the new Showtime comedy “I’m Dying Up Here,” which he executive produced. Calling for more gruesome displays, Carrey encouraged Griffin to “hold up a severed leg as well.”

According to Carrey, who explained his comments in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, “It is the job of a comedian to cross the line at all times, because that line is not real.” Carrey believes comedians are “the last line of defense” and “the last voice of truth in this whole thing.”

Griffin’s photo, shot by Tyler Shields, has been widely criticized. Due to the reactions, Griffin lost her job co-hosting a New Years Eve show for CNN, had a comedy performance invitation rescinded and received negative reactions from people all over the political map, from Chelsea Clinton to President Donald Trump himself.

Trump tweeted: “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”

Beyond support for Griffin, Carrey doubled down on outrageous statements when he described a dream he’d had.

“I had a dream the other night I was playing golf with Donald Trump,” Carrey recalls. “I was standing beside him with a club in my hand, and I was considering my options when I suddenly woke up. It was one of those dreams where you just want to get back to sleep so you can finish it, you know?”
